Raleigh Rezoning without Due Process
RALEIGH NEIGHBORHOODS RAISE TRAFFIC SAFETY and WATER RUNOFF CONCERNS OVER “MISSING MIDDLE” LOOPHOLE
Our mission is to educate residents of our area, as well as the city of Raleigh, about how your new neighbor could be a new apartment, condo, or townhome without rezoning due process.
What is Missing Middle?
The term “missing middle” refers to housing types between detached single-family homes and large apartment buildings. This includes duplexes, triplexes, townhouses, and small apartments.
What is the plan?
A land developer from Kentucky is planning to build 18 townhomes on less than 2 acres of property along Six Forks between Anderson and Oakland. This is replacing two single-family homes that have been there for over 40 years. You can find the updated plans here:
Traffic Concerns
The intersection of Six Forks and Anderson is a high-volume five-lane road that has already had a number of accidents due to vehicles traveling at high speeds. There have been ~48 traffic accidents alone there since 2020, and 9 have been injury accidents.
Watershed Issues
All of the water runoff from the area feeds into Big Branch Creek, which can currently rise from a normal 1ft to over 15 feet in large rain events. The current two houses on the lots have a very small impervious footprint. Removing ~1.5 acres of trees and adding townhomes will increase the water runoff into the neighborhoods that have already seen record growth over the past few years.
BEFORE
PROPOSED

“Rezoning this area has failed twice in the last 15 years due to traffic concerns, its seems hard to believe you can use Raleigh’s Missing Middle text change to circumvent safety concerns.”
